Breakdown: Edison, ranked 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 poll, returns off a bye week to open Sunset League play with a home game…Newport Harbor finished nonleague play with three straight setbacks, all to ranked opponents: CdM, No. 6 in Division 4, Hacienda Heights Los Altos, No. 3 in Division 6, and Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, No. 8 in Division 6…Chargers have won the last 11 meetings against Newport Harbor…Sailors haven’t beaten the Chargers since 1979…Edison Coach Dave White and Newport Harbor Coach Jeff Brinkley took over at their respective schools in 1986…White, who has 229 wins with the Chargers, said he will retire after his 31st year, while Brinkley, who has won 239 games with the Sailors, plans to return next season.
