Women’s Basketball: VU’s Norman named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week

Vanguard University senior Melissa Norman has been named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women’s basketball.

The 6-foot-2 center helped the Lions earn three wins in as many games, averaging 18.7 points, 14.3 rebounds, four blocks and three steals in the three home wins.

In an 84-50 triumph over Trinity Western on Dec. 29, she had 15 points and nine rebounds.

In an 85-66 thumping of Lewis & Clark College on Jan. 1, she had 22 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks. She made 10 of 14 field-goal attempts.

In a 70-65 overtime win over the University of Calgary on Jan. 2, she had 19 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks.

She shot 56% from the field for the week to help the No. 12-ranked Lions improve to 7-3.

Vanguard plays host to Menlo in a GSAC game Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
