College Roundup: UCI men’s golf fifth in event

Folino Invitational

CITY OF INDUSTRY – Juniors David Kim (fourth) and Ryan O’Connor (seventh) helped UC Irvine finish third in the 54-hole event concluded Tuesday at Industry Hills Golf Club.

Kim’s three-round total was 218, while O’Connor carded a 220.

Senior Bryan Shin (222) was 16th and junior Johnny Hyun (230) was 34th.

Sophomore Chris Parkinson, competing as an individual, was 21st at 225.

UCI’s team score of 887 was 15 shots behind victorious Long Beach State.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 69, San Diego Christian 62

EL CAJON – Senior Claire Lamunu had 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead the visiting No. 5-ranked Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Maya Kennedy had 11 points and Christiana Gerostergiou had 10 for the winners (20-1, 8-0 in conference), who made seven of 17 three-point attempts (41.2%).

San Diego Christian is 13-7, 3-6).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

San Diego Christian 86, Vanguard 82 (OT)

El CAJON – Malachi Hoosein had 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the visiting Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Zach Allmon had 16 points and nine rebounds, while Victor Evans added 12 points and five rebounds.

Shacquille Dawkins had nine points and six assists for the Lions (4-18, 2-6 in conference).

Vanguard forfeited 11 victories earned through Dec. 15 due to the use of an ineligible player.

San Diego Christian is 7-12, 3-7.

BASEBALL

Doubleheader

Host Vanguard University split a pair with Benedictine-Mesa on Saturday, dropping the first game, 3-2, then winning, 11-2.

Trai Patrick was two for four with three runs batted in in the second game, in which Alex Camacho allowed one earned run in five innings to collect the victory.

In the first game, Brandon Sandoval was two for three with one RBI top lead the Lions, for whom starter Tyler Skinner took the loss.

Tyler Steele allowed one hit in three scoreless relief innings for Vanguard.

Orange Coast 5, Southwestern 3

CHULA VISTA – The Pirates improved to 2-0 with the nonconference road win on Tuesday.
