High School Roundup: CdM girls’ soccer shuts out Beckman

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Corona del Mar 2, Beckman 0

Ava McKenzie and Taylor Rosen scored second-half goals for the Sea Kings in Tuesday’s Pacific Coast League game at CdM.

Leah Givant and Megan Chelf had assists for CdM (17-0-3, 5-0-2), the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division 2. CdM stayed tied for first place with Northwood with three matches remaining in league.

The Sea Kings play at University on Thursday.

Estancia 2, Godinez 1

Freshmen Desiree Mendoza and Jada Alford each scored a goal for the Eagles in Tuesday’s Orange Coast League game at Estancia High.

Elizabeth Esquivel and Katarina Freiberger had assists for Estancia (11-4-2, 6-1 in league), which plays at Laguna Beach in a key game Wednesday.

Pacifica Christian 4, Avalon 0

Isabel Hadley scored twice for the Tritons in Tuesday’s game.

Alyssa Smith and Mele Falasco added goals for Pacifica Christian (14-2).

Los Alamitos 2, Newport Harbor 0

The Sailors were blanked in Tuesday’s Sunset League game at Costa Mesa High.

Newport Harbor fell to 13-4-2, 4-4 in league.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Estancia 15, Bolsa Grande 2

Hayley Hopp and Katelyn Chesemore each had five goals for the Eagles in Tuesday’s nonleague game.

Julia Paluch scored twice, while Kalena Shepherd, Sydni White and Annie Mitchell had one goal each.

Estancia plays host to Costa Mesa in the Battle for the Bell game Wednesday.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sunset League
Los Alamitos 80, Newport Harbor 27: Cailyn Crocker and Asia Avinger each scored 20 points to lead the Griffins (17-5, 6-1) to victory.

Lexi Alvarez had six points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the loss for the Sailors (7-15, 1-6). Lis Hamilton added five points and 11 rebounds.

Marina 68, Fountain Valley 35: Katie Nguyen had 16 points and 10 rebounds to help the Vikings (10-13, 5-2) past the Barons (6-14, 0-7).

Sadie Atwood also had 16 points. Michelle Esparza and Tricia Fukuzawa had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Huntington Beach 67, Edison 36: Frankie Wade-Sanchez’s 20 points paced the Oilers (16-7, 6-1), who remain tied for the Sunset League lead with Los Alamitos.

Kaylyn Nakaji had 15 points, and Xolani Hodel added 10.

Ashley Niemand led the Chargers (12-10, 3-4) with nine points.

Academy League
Crean Lutheran 61, Brethren Christian 17: Shannon O’Malley had 12 points, and Daisy Lammers added 11 as the Saints (13-9, 6-3) routed the Warriors (5-16, 0-9).

Golden West League
Ocean View 69, Westminster 41: The Seahawks (19-4, 6-1) are tied with Segerstrom (18-5, 6-1) atop the league standings.

Pacific Coast League
Beckman 54, Corona del Mar 47: Katrina Metcalf had 21 points, five rebounds, and four steals to propel the Patriots (11-10, 4-3) over the Sea Kings (3-19, 0-7).

Orange Coast League
Godinez 56, Estancia 28

WRESTLING

Sunset League
Los Alamitos 44, Newport Harbor 30: Ethan Zimmerman (160s), Miguel Licona (170s), and DJ Van Oostendorp scored three straight pins in the duel meet, but the Sailors fell to the Griffins.

Diego Naranjo (132s) and Michael Craft (120s) also scored wins by decision.

Newport Harbor finishes fifth in the Sunset League. Los Alamitos took third place.
