OCC women’s basketball edges LA Valley

The host Pirates turned a 20-6 first-quarter deficit into a 28-26 halftime lead and held on in the first round of the Southern California Regional playoffs Wednesday.

Sophomore Sami Little had 17 points, while freshman Michelle Wu added 14 to propel the No. 16-seeded Pirates (16-13) over the No. 17-seeded visitors (14-14).

OCC will visit top-seeded Mt. San Antonio (29-1) on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Sarah Nunes had 13 points for OCC, which had just four of the game’s 20 turnovers to help offset 47.7% field-goal shooting by LA Valley.
