College Roundup: Vanguard women take down San Diego Christian

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 85, San Diego Christian 64

Seniors Samantha Doucette and Melissa Norman led the host No. 8-ranked Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.

Doucette had 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Norman chipped in 12 points and 12 boards to help Vanguard improve to 21-5, 12-3 in conference.

Junior Maya Kennedy had 14 points and nine assists for the Lions, who close the regular season against visiting Arizona Christian on Saturday at 2 p.m.

UC Santa Barbara 66, UC Irvine 37

SANTA BARBARA — Andrea Ritter had nine points to lead the visiting Anteaters in the Big West Conference game Thursday.

UCI (4-23, 1-12 in conference) shot 31% from the field (18 for 58), including one for 14 from three-point range.

UCSB is 11-17, 8-6.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 109, San Diego Christian 93

Vanguard junior Zach Allmon had 37 points and 16 rebounds and senior teammate Jaamon Echols had 31 points to pace the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.

Allmon, who had 39 points in a 101-92 win at San Diego Christian on Feb. 2, was 16 for 23 from the field and five for seven from the foul line on Thursday.

Echols was 11 for 23 from the field and made eight of nine free-throw attempts.

Myles Smith had 11 points and 10 assists, while Brandon Brothers added 13 points for the winners (18-9, 7-8 in conference).

San Diego Christian is 10-15, 3-12.

BASEBALL

NC Dinos 6, UC Irvine 2

Andrew Martinez homered to account for one of four hits by the host Anteaters in the exhibition against a team from Korea on Thursday.

Alex Guenette doubled in a run, while Griffin Mazur and Grant Palmer had the other hits for UCI.

UCI starting pitcher Alonzo Garcia, as well as Daniel Alvarez, did not allow an earned run in two innings, while Miles Glazier and Jordan Bocko one hitless, scoreless inning apiece.

There UCI errors led to two unearned runs.

NC Dinos hit two home runs.

UCI (2-3) plays host to Nevada in the first of a three-game nonconference series on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Orange Coast def. Moorpark

The host Pirates improved to 6-1 with a 25-12, 25-19, 25-15 nonconference sweep on Wednesday.
