Rose Bowl Jamboree

Junior Jensen Coop scored three goals for the Sea Kings in the title game, while senior Kennedy McGuiness scored twice and junior Kennedy Mulvaney added a goal and an assist. Senior Courtney Johnston also had an assist, while Mulvaney had a team-best three ground balls. Sophomore goalie Ashley Olson, who played strong throughout the tournament, made two saves.

“You can tell on both sides that there’s a lot of history behind that matchup,” CdM Coach Aly Simons said of facing the Patriots. “It was a pretty physical match but the girls were able to calm their nerves a little bit and perform well, especially in the second half.”

CdM also beat two Los Angeles County teams, Oak Park (6-5) and Redondo Union (9-3) to make the title game. Coop and Mulvaney each scored twice against Oak Park, and senior Caroline Bethel and freshman Ellery Amdor added one goal each. Mulvaney had two assists.

Coop had three goals against Redondo, and Johnston two. Mulvaney, Emily Cannon, Maria LaBruna and Amdor also scored.

Simons highlighted the play of her two freshman starters, Amdor and defender Joslyn Simaan.

“[Amdor] was amazing,” Simons said. “I don’t think she subbed out in the tournament ... It was just really exciting to see our girls play against other teams. We look really great. Our girls this year are really fast and it’s fun to see them get the ball up the field. They trust each other; they actually pass the ball.”

CdM plays at Mater Dei on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
