High School Roundup: Larsen delivers gem for CdM

IRVINE — Evan Larsen delivered a gem for the Sea Kings to open Pacific Coast League play at Ryan Lemmon Park on Friday.

His complete-game one-hitter included nine strikeouts and no walks. He faced two batters over the minimum. The senior bound for Cal State Fullerton finished with 80 pitches, 59 for strikes.

Brenden Heuston had two hits including a double and a run batted in.

J.T. Schwartz, Preston Hartsell and Chazz Martinez also had RBIs for CdM (6-0, 1-0 in league), which plays at University on Tuesday.

Estancia 7, Saddleback 0

Connor Brown improved to 2-0 as a pitcher after five innings for work that included 10 strikeouts and one hit allowed in the Orange Coast League game on Friday.

Brian Rodriguez was two for three with a double and run scored for Estancia (7-3,1-1 in league).

Jake McIntyre (triple, three runs batted in), Jeff Alai (one for four, one RBI), Tyler Ross (two for three, one RBI) also contributed for the Eagles, who play host to Calvary Chapel on Tuesday.

Calvary Chapel 7, Costa Mesa 3

Grady Conner, Ryan Lether and Carter Chapman had two hits each for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League game on Friday.

Costa Mesa fell to 0-2 league. The Mustangs matched Calvary Chapel with 10 hits but had five errors.

Fountain Valley 4, Newport Harbor 1

Cade Seabold went one for two with an RBI for the Sailors in their Sunset League opener on Friday.

Sean Korkmaz went one for three with a double, while Luke Genova pitched six innings and fell to 2-1.

Newport Harbor (4-4) plays against Marina at Angel Stadium Saturday at 2 p.m.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Orange County Championships

Corona del Mar won twice in pool play, beating Yorba Linda, 25-14, 25-17 and Dana Hills, 26-24, 25-15, on Friday.

Hunter had seven kills against Yorba Linda. He finished with 11 kills and three block assists against Dana Hills. Brandon Browning had six kills and Sam Kobrine added five kills against Dana Hills.

CdM plays against San Clemente in the first round of bracket play Saturday at 9 a.m. at Edison.
