High School Roundup: CdM to play in OC Championships final

HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Corona del Mar High boys’ volleyball team will play for the title of the Orange County Championships on Monday night at 7 at Edison High against Los Alamitos.

Sam Kobrine recorded 11 kills and six digs to lead the Sea Kings past Tesoro, 25-19, 26-24, in the semifinals at Edison on Saturday.

Brandon Browning had five kills and nine digs in the big win, and Will Hunter added six kills.

Hunter came up big with 12 kills to lead CdM to a 25-18, 28-30, 15-13 win over San Clemente in the quarterfinal earlier on Saturday.

Mitch Haly added seven kills, one solo block and six block assists for the Sea Kings.

BASEBALL

Newport Harbor 7, Marina 3

ANAHEIM — Jeremiah Sheldon shined for the Sailors in their Sunset League win over Marina at Angel Stadium on Saturday.

Sheldon pitched six innings and gave up two runs to improve to 2-1. He also went one for four with one run batted in.

Hugh Gibbs closed for the Newport Harbor victory in the seventh.

John Olmsetad went two for three, Luke Genova was two for four with two RBIs and Cade Seabold went two for four for the Sailors (5-4, 1-1 in league).

TRACK & FIELD

Triton Invitational

SAN CLEMENTE — Newport Harbor High senior Emma Kratzberg won the 300 hurdles in 45.04 seconds Saturday at San Clemente High.

Kratzberg’s win came after her third-place finish in the 400 meters in 58.18.

Emily Bacon, Holly Clemence, Lauren Loucks and Mia Matsunami, combined to take second in the distance medley relay in 13:29.40.

Matsunami ran the 1,200, Loucks ran the 400, Clemence ran the 800 and Bacon ran the 1,600.

Loucks, Matsunami, Bacon, Clemence won the 4x800 relay in 10:26.60.

Junior Ryan Fegan took second in the pole vault with clearance at 14 feet.

Junior Cole Smith was second in the shotput (59-10) and second in the discus.

Junior Mike Jarboe was third in the shotput (53-4 1/2).

Junior Mark Field was second in the 1,600 (4:26.84).

The Sailors took second in the boys’ distance medley relay in 11:02.32. Anthony Agama ran the 1,200, Sawyer Farmer ran the 400, Erik Herrera ran the 800 and Mark Field ran the 1,600.

NHHS opens up with Sunset League action on Thursday at Fountain Valley for a dual meet.
