College Roundup: UCI men’s volleyball edges George Mason

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. — Junior Michael Saeta had a career-high 24 kills, while David Parker had career-bests in digs (18) and kills (14) to lead the visiting Anteaters to the 25-20, 18-25, 25-21, 24-26, 15-10 nonconference victory Tuesday.

Saeta led No. 14-ranked UCI (8-15) with four aces.

George Mason is 9-11.

UCI lost at Penn State, 23-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-17, on Monday.

UCI was defeated, 23-25, 29-27, 19-25, 25-22, 15-12, at Ball State on Sunday.

SOFTBALL

Doubleheader

LA MIRADA — Visiting Vanguard University was swept by Golden State Athletic Conference rival Biola on Tuesday.

The No. 20-ranked Eagles followed a 5-3 win in Game 1 with a 5-2 victory to improve to 15-7-1, 3-8 in conference.

No. 18-ranked Vanguard fell to 21-16, 5-7.

Emily Hall was two for three with two runs batted in and Kristyn Whitley was two for two with one RBI for the Lions in the opener.

In Game 2, Kaitlin Estes was two for three and scored a run, while Whitley was one for two with an RBI.

BASEBALL

UC Irvine 8, Seattle 4

Sophomore center fielder Keston Hiura went three for four with three runs batted in and two runs to lead the host Anteaters, who completed a three-game nonconference sweep on Sunday.

Senior first baseman Mitchell Holland was two for five with two RBIs and junior second baseman Cole Kreuter had two RBIs for the Anteaters (14-6), who scored sixth in the eighth inning to erase a 4-2 deficit.

Chris Vargas earned his first win with 2 ½ innings of scoreless relief.

Seattle fell to 11-8.
