Local athletes earn All-CIF honors

Sage Hill’s Munger All-CIF

Sage Hill School sophomore defender Chase Munger made the All-CIF Southern Section Division 6 boys’ soccer team.

Munger led Sage Hill to a runner-up finish in the Academy League and the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs. The Lightning (11-9-1, 9-3-0 in league) lost at La Cañada Flintridge Prep, 3-1.

Desert Mirage senior forward Fred Zaragoza earned the CIF Southern Section Division 6 Player of the Year award.

CdM’s Kobrine makes All-CIF

Corona del Mar High senior guard Sam Kobrine is the lone Newport-Mesa boys’ basketball player to earn All-CIF Southern Section laurels, doing so in Division 3A.

Kobrine, who is heading to UCLA to play for its men’s volleyball team, averaged 14 points, five rebounds, 2.5 steals and one block per game.

Kobrine led the Sea Kings (20-9, 6-4 in league) to a share of second place in league and the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3A playoffs. The Sea Kings’ season ended in a 55-54 loss at San Gabriel Gabrielino.

Diamond Ranch senior Roman Silva was the CIF Southern Section Division 3A Player of the Year.
