CdM is ranked No. 6 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, and Beckman is No. 9.

The match was tied 3-3 after the first round and 6-6 after two rounds. After Hoffmann and Fernandez won in the third round, CdM (9-2, 3-0 in league) had an 8-7 advantage with all three doubles matches still on court.

CdM’s Oliver Kim and Grant Brown rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win, 6-4, to take the ninth point. The Sea Kings’ Jacob Cooper and Kyle Pham then rallied from a 4-1 deficit to claim a 7-6 (7-3) victory, for the clinching 10th set.

“I think we saved our best doubles for the third round, which was necessary,” CdM Coach Jamie Gresh said. “It wasn’t looking too good after two rounds of doubles ... I think it’s pretty big. Heading into spring break next week, we’re 3-0 in league. I think the guys have done a really good job of adjusting to a couple of different partners and me changing the lineup. They’ve been on board, been OK with all of the adjustments and modifications.”

Gresh said that standout freshman Diego Fernandez will be eligible to play following his 30-day transfer sit-out period when the Sea Kings resume league play April 12 against Irvine. CdM plays at rival University the next day.
