College Roundup: OCC baseball shuts out Riverside

Orange Coast 8, Riverside 0

Sophomore McKinley LeFore tossed a three-hit shutout, his second straight whitewash, to lift the host Pirates, who moved back into a first-place tie with the Tigers in the Orange Empire Conference on Saturday.

LeFore struck out 10 and walked two to help OCC, ranked No. 1 in the state, improve to 22-5, 9-3 in conference.

Robert Teel was three for four with one run batted in, while J.T. Navarro, Nolan Powers and Jacob White all had two hits and one RBI apiece for the winners.

Eric Wagaman had one hit and two RBIs.

Riverside, which topped OCC the first two games of the series, is 21-8, 9-3.

Golden West 8, Cypress 5

CYPRESS – The visiting Rustlers scored five in the ninth to win the game and the three-game Orange Empire Conference series on Saturday.

Zeff Zordani was two for four with a home run and three runs batted in to lead Golden West (15-12, 7-5 in conference).

Myles Moran was two for five with three RBIs and Zakk Morgan was two for four with one RBI for the Rustlers.

Cypress is 18-10, 5-7.

Doubleheader

Host Vanguard University split two games with Arizona Christian in Golden State Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

The Lions won the first game, 14-8, but lost a 3-1 lead in the final inning to fall, 5-3, in Game 2.

In Game 1, Brock Eissman was two for four with six runs batted in, while Josh Weeks was three for four with one RBI.

Brandon Sandoval and Tanner Perry each had two hits, two RBIs and one stolen base for the Lions (22-16, 14-7 in conference.

ACU is 20-17, 11-12.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. Stanford

STANFORD – Thomas Hodges had 18 kills, five digs and two blocks to lead the visiting Anteaters to a 25-23, 31-29, 21-15, 25-19 victory in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match late Friday.

Aaron Koubi hit .462 with 16 kills and a team-best seven digs, while Scott Stadick had seven kills and six total blocks.

Michael Saeta had 45 assists, six kills and two aces for No. 5-ranked UCI (17-6, 11-5 in conference).

No. 9-ranked Stanford, which visits UCI on Friday at 7 p.m., is 11-11, 6-9.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

UC Irvine 15, Cal State Northridge 5

NORTHRIDGE – Mary Brooks had four goals to lead the visiting No. 6-ranked Anteaters in the Big West Conference game Saturday.

Cambria Shockley had three goals for UCI (16-6, 2-0 in conference).
