SAN DIEGO — Grant Palmer drove in the only run and joined John Brontsema and Andrew Martinez as Anteaters with two hits in the nonconference game Tuesday.

UCI had four errors that led to two unearned runs as the Aztecs had nine hits off eight UCI pitchers.

UCI felt to 20-13.

San Diego State is 11-23.

UCI opens a three-game Big West Conference series at UC Davis on Friday.

UC Irvine 7, Long Beach State 2

LONG BEACH — Sophomore Alonzo Garcia allowed two hits over eight innings to propel the visiting Anteaters in the Big West Conference game Sunday at Blair Field.

Garcia walked four, struck out three and allowed one earned run to improve to 3-2 and help UCI (20-12, 4-5 in conference) salvage the final game of a three-game series.

Wyatt Castro was two for three with two runs batted in, while Adam Alcantara (one RBI) and Mitchell Holland added two hits apiece for the ‘Eaters.

John Brontsema, Grant Palmer, Keston Hiura and Alex Guenette drove in one run apiece for the winners.

UCI was defeated, 8-3, on Saturday, when starting pitcher Cameron Bishop allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Seven Anteaters had one hit apiece on Saturday.

Long Beach State finished the weekend 21-13, 5-4.

Riverside 3, Orange Coast 2

RIVERSIDE — Three Pirates’ errors led to one unearned run for the difference in the Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday at the Tigers’ diamond.

J.T. McLellan and Andrew Garcia drove in runs for OCC (15-16, 6-10 in conference), which had six players contribute to its six-hit performance.

OCC pitchers Ryan Randel and Casey Costello each allowed one earned run in four innings.

RCC improved to 18-13, 6-10.

The two teams meet again Thursday at OCC at 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S GOLF

Big West Championship

KAPALUA, Hawaii — Sophomore Breanne Jones finished 26th to lead UC Irvine at the three-day tournament completed Tuesday at Kapalua Golf Course.

Jones (240), Camille Wagg (tied for 30th at 244), Samantha Chan (35th at 247), and Kristin Henno (36th at 250) contributed to UCI’s team score of 981, which ranked eighth in the eight-team event.

UCI was 66 shots behind victorious UC Riverside.

SOFTBALL

Doubleheader

FULLERTON — Visiting Vanguard University swept Hope International in Golden State Athletic Conference play on Tuesday at Fullerton College.

The Lions won the opener, 11-0, and capped the day with a 10-2 triumph.

In the opener, Samantha Shaffer went three for four with two runs batted in, while Payton Ross was three for five with two RBIs and two runs for the winners (30-21, 11-11 in conference).

Britany Heinle was two for four with two RBIs and two runs, while Taylor Wilson went three for five with three runs.

Kaitlin Estes was two for four with one RBI and one run for Vanguard, which lashed 16 hits.

Alexandra Olvera allowed two hits over six innings to earn the win.

In the second game, Estes was three for four with one RBI and two runs, while Shaffer was two for three with two RBIs.

Summer Penner drove in two runs and scored twice, while Emily Hall and Amber Huffman had two hits apiece.

HIU is now 26-25, 10-14.
