High School Roundup: CdM girls’ lax improves to 7-1 in league

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 14, University 6

On senior day, senior co-captains Courtney Johnston, Kennedy McGuinness, Paige Nelson (two goals each) and Lauren Grable all scored for CdM in Wednesday’s Pacific Coast League home game.

Kennedy Mulvaney returned from a one-game injury absence for two goals, while Jenson Coop, Caroline Bethel, Ellery Amdor, Emily Faludy and Lauren Rowe also scored for CdM.

Bethel led CdM (11-2, 7-1 in league) with four ground balls and Katie McCabe had two caused turnovers.

CdM plays host to Foothill on Friday.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 16, Huntington Beach 3

Eric Fries scored six goals to lead the Sea Kings on Wednesday.

Nate Neumann added three goals for CdM.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 196, Edison 225

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Clay Seeber and JohnMichael Jurgensen shared medalist honors as both shot even-par 36 for the Sea Kings in the nonleague match at SeaCliff Country Club on Wednesday.

Ethan Wien (39), Guy Clauss (42) and Garrett Wayne (43) also scored for CdM (8-4).

The Sea Kings play against University in a Pacific Coast League match at Newport Country Club Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Laguna Beach 120, Estancia 46

LAGUNA BEACH — Kent Lim won the 100-yard butterfly for the Eagles in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League meet.

Lim touched in 1 minute, 0.77 seconds. The Estancia 200 medley relay team of Chris DeFrenza, Victor Godfrey, Lim and Jason Chesemore won in 1:55.67.

Estancia (4-5, 1-3 in league) next swims Friday at home against Savanna.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Laguna Beach 124, Estancia 44

The Eagles lost Wednesday’s Orange Coast League meet on the road.

No individual highlights were provided.

BASEBALL

Huntington Beach 13, Newport Harbor 8

Cade Seabold went three for four with an RBI for the Sailors in the Sunset League game at NHHS on Wednesday.

John Olmstead went two for four and Jake Genova went one for three with two RBIs for Newport Harbor.

The Sailors took a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning, chasing starter Nick Pratto but could not hold on to the lead.

Huntington Beach is ranked No. 10 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.

Newport Harbor plays at Huntington Beach on Friday. The Oilers recently renovated their baseball stadium.
