High School Roundup: NHHS baseball stuns HB

BASEBALL

Newport Harbor 8, Huntington Beach 6

Jake Genova went two for four with a double, two RBIs and the game-winning hit with the bases loaded to lead the Sailors in the Sunset League game on Friday.

John Olmstead tied the game with a home run in the top of the seventh. Luke Genova went two for five with a two-run home run and finished with three RBIs. Luke Genova also earned the pitching win after seven innings of work and three strikeouts.

Hugh Gibbs earned the save getting three outs with runners at second and third with no outs.

Cade Seabold went two for four with a home run and Dylan Kaplan went two for four for the Sailors.

Calvary Chapel 6, Estancia 0

Colin Gardner was one for three with a double for Estancia in the Orange Coast League game on Friday.

Brian Rodriguez went one for three for Estancia (13-9, 4-5 in league), which plays host to Brethren Christian Saturday at 11 a.m.

Corona del Mar 4, Irvine 1

Donato DiFerdinando had two hits, including a triple and RBI for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game on Friday.

Evan Larsen had two singles, Brenden Heuston had a double and two RBIs, while Alex Shadid earned the pitching win and Tommy Paoletti got the save for CdM (15-3, 6-3 in league), which plays host to Woodbridge on Tuesday.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 12, Foothill 7

Jensen Coop had four goals and three ground balls for the Sea Kings in their upset nonleague win Friday at CdM.

Kennedy Mulvaney had three goals, two draws and two ground balls, while Caroline Bethel scored twice. Ellery Amdor, Kennedy McGuinness and Paige Nelson (three assists) added one goal each.

Goalie Ashley Olson made a season-high 15 saves for CdM (12-2), ranked No. 5 in Orange County by laxpower.com. Foothill is ranked No. 3.

CdM plays at Northwood on Monday.

Newport Harbor 11, Yorba Linda 1

The Sailors clinched the outright Century SE League title, their first outright title in program history, after winning Thursday night at Jim Scott Stadium.

Katie Hendrix had two goals, three assists and three draw controls for Newport Harbor. Rylie Siegfried had two goals and seven draw controls, while Sarah Farley, Adena Rothbard and Lysie Kenney also scored twice.

Jessica Woodruff had a goal and Heather Roberts had an assist and five ground balls for Newport Harbor (8-6, 6-0 in league). Jordan Rausch (four ground balls and three takeaways), Maxine Aiello (three ground balls and three takeaways), Jillian Rosten (three ground balls) and Hayden Allen led the defensive effort.

Newport Harbor plays at Temecula Valley in a nonleague game Tuesday.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Beckman

Sam Kobrine had 12 kills to lead the Sea Kings to a 25-17, 25-16, 25-23 Pacific Coast League win on Friday.

Brandon Browning (nine kills), Will Hunter (11 kills, five block assists, Mitch Haly (six kills, six block assists), Kevin Kobrine (eight kills, five block assists), Matt Ctvrtlik (38 assists, four kills, two block assists, seven digs) and Pat Paragas (15 digs) also contributed for CdM.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 190, University 200

Guy Clauss shot two-under par 33 to earn medalist honors for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match at Newport Beach Country Club on Thursday.

Clay Seeber (37), Ethan Wien (38), Zach Glabman (41) and JohnMichael Jurgensen (41) also scored for CdM (10-4, 5-3 in league).

Los Alamitos 188, Newport Harbor 206

SEAL BEACH – Noah Mayne shot one-over par 37 for the Sailors in the Sunset League match at Old Ranch Country Club on Thursday.

Ethan Barnes (38), Richie Simons (40), Drake Siegel (41) and Ryan Standt (50) also scored for Newport Harbor (6-3, 5-2 in league).
