Three ‘Eaters shine in women’s tennis

UC Irvine senior women’s tennis player Sarah Gong was named first-team All-Big West Conference in singles and was a second-team choice in doubles, along with junior partner Mazy Watrous.

Gong, a first-team singles performer in 2014 and a second-team honoree in 2015, defeated seven foes in dual matches and was 4-3 in Big West play in the No. 1 singles spot.

A highlight for Gong and Watrous was an upset of the No. 15-ranked UC Santa Barbara pair of Stefani Stojic and Palina Dubavets.

Gong was a second-team doubles pick in 2014.

UCI sophomore Vivien Dvali earned second-team recognition in singles. She won seven of her last 10 matches, including five in conference play.

UCI finished 6=15, 4-4 in the Big West.
