CdM’s Abdulghany shoots 8-under!

LAGUNA NIGUEL — Corona del Mar High senior Alyaa Abdulghany shot eight-under-par 28 to set a course and school record as the medalist in the Sea Kings’ season-opening win at El Niguel Country Club on Wednesday.
The defending CIF State champion led CdM to a 202-206 victory over Aliso Niguel. She collected eight birdies and one par, the latter coming on the second hole, a par-5.
Celine Nu (38), Gia Finear (44), Sidney Sharf (44) and Malia Malifuka (48) also scored for CdM (1-0).
Abdulghany was selected in August to play for the U.S. team in the Junior Ryder Cup Sept. 26-27 at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn.
“Alyaa is just amazing,” CdM Coach Mike Starkweather said. “And, she’s such a great kid.”
