High School Roundup: Corona del Mar beats archrival Newport in girls’ golf

Alyaa Abdulghany and Celine Nu both shot two-over-par 37 to share medalist honors for the Sea Kings in the Battle of the Bay at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Mesa Linda course Thursday.

Gabby Finear shot 40, and Gia Finear and Sidney Sharf both carded 44 for CdM.

Newport Harbor had seven golfers graduate in the spring with one lone returner: sophomore Nicole Nesbitt, who shot 41.

Hannah Hiromoto shot 51 in her first varsity match. Jaelyn Cooper (56), Siobhan Inch (64) and Julia Gregory (64) also scored for the Sailors.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Estancia 18, Mark Keppel 4

Jason Chesemore scored nine goals for the Eagles in their nonleague season opener Wednesday at Estancia High.

Cobi White had three goals, while Alex Epperson and Dion Howard chipped in two each. Hector Camarena and Chris Bauer also scored for Estancia.

Eizik Leyva made five saves for Estancia, which plays in the El Dorado tournament beginning Friday.
