College Roundup: OCC women’s XC takes second in conference

IRVINE — Freshman Alyssa Allen finished third to help Orange Coast College place second as a team on Friday at Mason Park.

Allen completed the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 54.96 seconds.

OCC, which finished behind Riverside, was also bolstered by sophomore Janessa Reyes (eighth in 20:14.50), freshman Bethani Heising (ninth in 20:19.29), freshman Karen Cruz (19th in 21:10.54) and freshman Rebecca Ross (23rd in 21:25.62).

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Orange Empire Conference Championships

IRVINE — Orange Coast College freshman Galyn Nash finished seventh and the Pirates were fourth as a team on Friday at Mason Park.

Nash’s time on the four-mile course was 21:23.81.

OCC scorers also included freshman Danny Dominguez (21:36.88), sophomore Eamon Smythe (19th in 21:47.21), freshman Oscar Salas (21st in 21:56.71) and freshman Joseph Martinez (22nd in 21:59.56).

OCC’s 81 points trailed Riverside (35), Saddleback (65) and Santa Ana (71).

Irvine Valley 1, Orange Coast 0

IRVINE — The Lasers scored in the 11th minute in the Orange Empire Conference match on Friday.

Goalie Ryan Brown made five saves for OCC (6-9-1, 5-5-0 in conference).

Irvine Valley is 11-2-4, 8-0-2.

MEN’S GOLF

Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON — UC Irvine is in fifth place after Friday’s second round.

The Anteaters have a 36-hole total of 591 on the par-71 course at the Stockton Golf & Country Club.

Sacramento State leads the 16-team field at 570, Long Beach State is second at 573, Pacific is third at 584 and Denver fourth at 589.

UCI sophomore David Kim continued his strong play, shooting an even-par 71 Friday to tie for third place at 140 along with Matt Lutz from UC Riverside. Pacific’s Matt Lee and Sacramento State’s Landon Azevedo, both competing as individuals, are tied for the lead at 139.

Anteater senior Jacob Schulze shot a 73 Friday and is in 35th place at 149, sophomore Jonathan Young carded a 74 and is 44th at 151.

Freshman Jefferson Kao (75) is in 56th place at 152 and Ramiz Jamal, another UCI freshman, is 71st at 155 after a 74 Friday.

The final round is scheduled for Saturday, with the ‘Eaters going off the first tee beginning at 8:30 a.m.
