MISSION VIEJO — The top-seeded Rustlers improved to 26-0 while claiming their 28th consecutive conference title in the final of the Orange Empire Conference Tournament on Saturday at Saddleback College.

Jake Moss and Alex Nathan had three goals apiece to lead Golden West, which advances to the Southern California Regional Championship, Thursday through Saturday at Golden West.

Ben Morrison, James Smith and Tom McJannett all scored twice for Coach Scott Taylor’s Rustlers.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Long Beach State 3, UC Irvine 0

LONG BEACH — The No. 4-seeded 49ers scored in the fifth, 24th and 26th minute to dominate the Big West Conference Tournament final on Sunday at Long Beach State.

No. 2-seeded UCI completes its season 13-7-2.

Long Beach State advances to the NCAA Tournament with a 10-6-4 record.

Golden State Athletic Conference Championship

ROCKLIN — Vanguard University’s Zach DeAtley finished fifth and fellow senior Zach Hunt was sixth to lead the Lions on Saturday.

DeAtley pared 27 seconds off his previous best 8,000-meter time, finishing in 25 minutes even.

Hunt’s time was 25:01, while Vanguard junior Jeronimo Brito was 14th in 25:29.

All three Lions earned all-conference recognition that goes to the top 15 individual finishers. It was the third all-conference honor for Hunt and the second for DeAtley.

Vanguard finished fourth among nine teams.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Golden State Athletic Conference Championship

ROCKLIN — Senior Bayleigh Porter finished 30th to lead the Lions, who were sixth as a team on Saturday.

Porter completed the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, five seconds.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Orange Coast 79, Pasadena 78

VENTURA — Kamar Reese scored 20 points to lead the Pirates in the consolation final of the Ventura Tournament on Saturday.

Tim Pena hit a three-pointer on OCC’s final possession to help the Pirates overcome a 78-76 deficit and improve to 2-1.

Pena had 11 points, while Josh Mendoza and Ibrahim Gerlach each scored 12.

On Friday, OCC defeated Moorpark, 76-58, after falling in its opener on Thursday, 95-81, to Antelope Valley.

Reese came off the bench to score 22 against Antelope Valley.

OCC plays host to Miramar on Friday at 5 p.m.

Vanguard 94, Whittier 86

Zach Allmon scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Lions in the nonconference game on Tuesday night.

Malachi Hoosein also scored 17 points to go with seven rebounds. Shacquille Dawkins scored 14 points and dished out six assists, Jamaal Lee added 13 points and nine rebounds and Victor Evans scored 10 points for Vanguard (2-0).

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

Golden West 10, Orange Coast 2

MISSION VIEJO — Isabella Magno scored four goals and Kailyn Zwaagstra had 11 saves to help the Rustlers prevail in the third-place game of the Orange Empire Conference Tournament on Saturday at Saddleback College.

Golden West (25-2) is the No. 4 seed in the Southern California Regional Championship, Thursday through Saturday at Golden West.

The Rustlers play either No. 5-seeded OCC (11-10) or San Diego Mesa, who meet in the opening round on Thursday, in a Friday contest at 10:15 a.m.
