College Roundup: OCC football team edges Grossmont

EL CAJON — Freshman running back Kyle White rushed for 240 yards and three touchdowns and caught a 26-yard touchdown pass to finalize the scoring in the Southern Division game on Saturday.

White’s fourth touchdown came with 9:28 left and Griff Amies’ PAT put the Pirates (3-7, 2-4 in conference) ahead for good.

Grossmont (4-6, 2-4) took a 14-0 lead, but the visitors scored 21 straight points. The lead went back and forth as both teams amassed 1,051 combined yards of offense (471 by OCC).

White had scoring runs of 56, four and two yards and was just 35 yards shy of the school single-game rushing yardage record set by Bill Harrison in 1956.

Kody Whitaker completed 14 of 26 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns with one interception and sophomore receiver Mark Munson capped his record-setting season with two catches for 16 yards. Munson’s 68 receptions are an OCC record. His 989 receiving yards this season rank No. 2 in OCC single-season annals.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Davis def. UC Irvine

DAVIS — Marisa Bubica had 15 kills in the visiting Anteaters’ 22-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 Big West Conference defeat on Saturday.

Allison Lee added 11 kills, Shelley Anderson had 31 assists and Arden Davis had 17 digs for UCI (17-11, 7-6 in conference.

UC Davis is 15-11, 10-3.

MEN’S WATER POLO

UC Irvine 9, UC Santa Barbara 6

The No. 12-ranked Anteaters closed out the regular season on an up note in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest Saturday.

UCI (15-11, 2-6 in conference) will compete in the MPSF Tournament next week. Pairings will be announced Sunday.

NO. 10-ranked UCSB is 9-13, 0-8.
