Bockrath earns All-Patriot League honors

Army sophomore Carolyn Bockrath, a former Newport Harbor High standout, earned second-team All-Patriot League honors in women’s volleyball.

She was voted to the second team for the second straight season after earning Rookie of the Year and second-team honors last season.

She led the team and conference in hitting percentage for the entire regular season. She currently has a hitting percentage of .418 to rank her No. 13 in the nation. Bockrath ranks No. 1 for Army in single-season hitting percentage and leads the Black Knights in kills with 301 and kills per set with 2.87.

She tallied 87 blocks to lead the team and averaged 0.89 per set. Bockrath led the squad in kills during nine matches this season and recorded double-digit kills in 17. She recorded a career-high 28 kills against McNeese State on Aug. 29.

The Black Knights (20-9, 12-4 in league) are the second seed in the Patriot League Tournament that begins Saturday against Lehigh in Washington D.C.

“Carolyn has been a steady player for our team,” Army Coach Alma Kovaci said in a release. “She is incredibly smart and one of the most competitive players on our team. It doesn’t matter if it’s a game we would be playing in practice, she hates to lose. She will continue to get better and I am confident that she, along with her classmates, will lead our team to greatness in the years to come.”
