Hodson named AVCA Freshman of the Year

Former Corona del Mar High standout Hayley Hodson, a freshman women’s volleyball star at Stanford, has been named American Volleyball Coaches Assn. Freshman of the Year.

A 6-foot-3 opposite, Hodson was also named second-team All-American.

She has also collected AVCA Pacific North Region and Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Year recognition, in addition to first-team all-conference plaudits.

Hodson started all 29 matches in which she played and led the Cardinal in kills (405), kills per set (3.82), points per set (4.52) and double-doubles (13). She hit .261 and ranked third on the team with 256 digs and fourth on the squad with 75 total blocks. She ranked third in the Pac-12 in aces per set (0.34), was sixth in points and seventh in kills.

Stanford finished 23-7 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
