Vanguard men’s hoops takes down Alberta

Sophomore guard Malachi Hoosein scored 33 points to lead the host Lions in the second day of the two-day Bill Reynolds Holiday Classic on Wednesday.

Hoosein made nine of 12 three-point attempts and added six rebounds and two assists to help No. 21-ranked Vanguard (10-2) sweep its two games in the event.

Senior Jaamon Echols had 15 points and seven assists, while Zach Allmon chipped in 10 points and six rebounds for the winners.

Vanguard made 17 of 33 three-point attempts (51.5%) and had just five turnovers.

Alberta is 4-7.

The Lions play host to Menlo College on 7 at 7:30 p.m.
