Boys’ Water Polo: Oilers land three on All-CIF team

Huntington Beach High seniors Ethan Wojciechowski, Patrick Saunders and Quinten Osborne have all earned first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 honors for boys’ water polo.

Corona del Mar High senior Will Rodosky and Newport Harbor senior Cole Brosnan join the Huntington Beach trio on the first team in Division 1, while Laguna Beach’s Gordon Pike, Colton Gregory and Sebastian Jacobs earned first-team All-CIF honors in Division 2, as did Jackson Loeuk of Los Amigos in Division 6.

The UCLA-bound Osborne, a center, was the Sunset League MVP for Huntington Beach (24-4). He scored a team-best 62 goals and helped the Oilers reach their first CIF title match in program history before falling to Orange Lutheran, 9-7. Huntington Beach also won its third straight Sunset League title.

Saunders, a goalkeeper also bound for UCLA, finished with 214 saves. Wojciechowski, the team captain bound for Cal, had 41 goals and 22 assists.

Rodosky, a team captain for CdM, was the Pacific Coast League MVP after finishing second on the Sea Kings (21-8) with 50 goals, adding a team-best 62 assists and 22 steals. Brosnan, a senior lefty and co-captain, finished with 55 goals, 26 assists and 29 steals for the Sailors (20-9).

Pike, a senior goalkeeper for Laguna Beach, helped the top-seeded Breakers (21-10) reach the Division 2 title match before falling to Santa Margarita, 6-4. Pike finished sixth in Orange County with 296 saves.

Gregory, a sophomore led the Breakers with 78 goals, adding 16 assists and 36 steals. Jacobs, a junior, had 44 goals, 23 assists and 50 steals.

Laguna Beach won its 11th straight Orange Coast League title this season, with Pike and Gregory earning co-league MVP honors.
