Vanguard drops to 1-4

LA MIRADA – Vanguard University dropped four matches Thursday and Friday at Biola University.
The No. 9-ranked Lions lost to No. 4-ranked Viterbo, 25-13, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, and also fell, 25-19, 25-22, 26-24, to No. 18-ranked Southern Oregon on Friday.
Against Viterbo, Juanae Johnson had 11 kills, while Jessica Chase added 10.
Rebecca Lowden had 13 digs for Vanguard.
Against Southern Oregon, Johnson and Chase had 11 kills apiece, Rory McCloy had 22 assists and Kelly Dalrymple chipped in 20.
Lowden led the Lions with 22 digs.
On Thursday, Vanguard (1-4) was defeated by No. 6-ranked Midland University and No. 24-ranked Northwestern College.
The Lions return to action on Thursday with two matches at the Big Sky Challenge in Montana.
