WOMEN’S SOCCER

Vanguard 10, Bethesda 0

Madison Lopp and Nicole Dunn had two goals apiece to lead eight Lions who scored in the nonconference game Saturday at Vanguard.

Dunn and Lopp added one assist each for the No. 10-ranked Lions (4-2), who have won four straight.

Haley Bruce had two assists and one goal, while Lauren Aronson, Allie Griffith and Hayley Gonzalez all had one goal and one assist for the winners, who posted a 49-1 shot advantage.

Bethesda is 0-4.

UC Irvine 3, Oregon 2

FULLERTON – Sammie James scored the game-winner in the 81st minute for the Anteaters in the first game of the Fullerton Tournament on Friday at Cal State Fullerton.

James’ goal was assisted by Noel Baham and Kiana Palacios.

Baham scored on assists by Palacios and Grayson Galbraith to erase a 1-0 deficit and Palacios converted an assist from Andrea Mensen to create a 2-2 deadlock in the 55th minute.

UCI had a 14-6 shot advantage to improve to 6-1.

Oregon is 5-1-1.

Orange Coast 3, MiraCosta 0

Jordan Moore had two goals and Sydnee Busby added one for the host Pirates in the nonconference game Friday.

Clara Brennan had the lone assist for OCC (2-1-1) and Tara Tellez had two saves to preserve the shutout.

MiraCosta is 0-4.

MEN’S SOCCER

Vanguard 2, Bethesda 0

Ivan Azpeita scored two unassisted goals and goalkeeper Brandon Gomez made seven saves to lead the No. 14-ranked Lions in the nonconference game on Saturday at Vanguard.

It was the fourth straight shutout this season for Vanguard (4-0), which has outscored opponents, 11-0,

The Lions took 29 shots, 17 more than the visitors (1-5).

Santa Clara 1, UC Irvine 0

An own-goal in the 66th minute was the difference in the nonconference game at UCI on Saturday.

UCI posted an 8-7 advantage in shots, but an Anteaters defender headed the ball backward over the goalkeeper to allow the Bronocs (3-2) to prevail.

UCI fell to 1-4.

LOS ANGELES – The visiting Pirates improved to 2-1-1 in the nonconference game on Friday.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Vanguard def. Arizona Christian

PHOENIX – Juanae Johnson had 22 kills and three block assists to lead the visiting Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference match on Saturday.

Vanguard prevailed, 20-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-18.

Rebecca Lowden had 21 digs for Vanguard (4-10, 2-0 in conference).

ACU fell to 1-4, 0-2.

Cerritos Tournament

NORWALK – Orange Coast College won twice on Saturday after going 1-2 on Friday at Cerritos College.

The Pirates (5-4) defeated San Bernardino Valley, 25-21, 25-18, 32-30, and topped Porterville in four games on Saturday.

On Friday, OCC defeated MiraCosta, 25-9, 25-18, 25-8, after falling in four games to Victor Valley and being swept by Long Beach.

Lana Salazar had 10 kills against MiraCosta, while Cady Delay had 11 assists, four ace serves and nine digs, all of which led the team.

SAN DIEGO – UC Irvine was swept by Colorado on Saturday after being swept by No. 7-ranked UCLA on Friday at the University of San Diego.

UCI fell to 2-7.

STANFORD – Jon Polos had two goals to lead the Anteaters in the nonconference game on Saturday.

The No. 8-ranked ‘Eaters fell to 1-2.

No. 5-ranked Stanford improved to 5-0.
