College Roundup: UCI women’s soccer moves to 8-1

UC Irvine 3, Idaho State 0

POCATELLO, Idaho – Kiana Palacios scored twice to lead the visiting Anteaters in the nonconference game Thursday.

Palacios now has nine goals and five assists for UCI (8-1), which also received a goal from Lili Andino.

Kelsey Texeira, Noel Baham and Jessica Miclat had assists to help UCI win its fourth straight game.

Maddie Newsom (a career-high six saves) and Maria Magana combined to post UCI’s fifth shutout of the season.

Idaho State is 3-6.

MEN’S WATER POLO

UC Irvine 13, Concordia 3

Eighth-ranked UCI used balanced offense and solid defense in the nonconference win at Anteater Aquatics Complex Thursday night.

Eight different Anteater players scored in the home opener, led by sophomore Jack Trush with three goals.

Junior Matej Matijevic recorded 11 saves in goal for UCI (4-2).

Concordia fell to 1-4.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Fresno State def. UC Irvine

FRESNO — Danielle Geiger’s career-high 19 kills was not enough as Fresno State defeated the Anteaters 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21 at the Save Mart Center Thursday.

Geiger also had five blocks. Harlee Kekauoha recorded nine kills and three aces and Luna Tsujimoto had a match-high 20 digs for UCI (3-8).

Fresno State improves to 9-2.
