Emily Malec scored two goals to lead the host Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.

Shelle Zito had one goal and two assists, while Sydnee Busby had one goal and one assist and Jordan Moore had two assists for OCC (5-3-1, 2-2 in conference).

Tara Tellez had two saves to preserve the shutout.

Fullerton is 1-6, 0-3.

Santa Clara 1, UC Irvine 0

SANTA CLARA — The Anteaters dropped their second straight game in a nonconference road date on Thursday.

Santa Clara (3-4-3) scored in the 68th minute and posted a 9-5 advantage in shots.

Alex Karlowitsch had the only shot on goal for UCI (8-3).

The Anteaters play host to Portland on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Fullerton 3, Orange Coast 2

FULLERTON — No statistics were available from the Orange Empire Conference game at Fullerton on Friday.

OCC fell to 3-3-2, 1-1-1.

Fullerton is 7-1-1, 3-1.

UC Irvine 1, Oregon State 0

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Mario Ortiz scored on an assist from Thomas Janjigian in the 53rd minute of the nonconference game Thursday.

The visiting Anteaters received four saves from Alex Waldron, who stopped a penalty kick to post a shutout in his first start of the season.

UCI , which posted a 10-8 shot advantage, is 2-6.

Oregon State fell to 4-3-1.

UCI visits Portland on Sunday at 3 p.m.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Pepperdine 12, UC Irvine 6

WALNUT CREEK – The No. 8-ranked Anteaters opened a 3-1 lead, but were overwhelmed by the Waves to open the Mountain Pacific Invitational on Friday at North Gate High.

Ryan Warde led UCI (5-4) with two goals.

No. 10-ranked Pepperdine is 8-1.
