Brandon Sandoval and Tanner Perry both hit two-run home runs for the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Friday.

Perry was two for three with three runs batted in to back starter Monty McCasland, who allowed one earned run and five hits in eight innings to improve to 3-1.

Jake Mellenthin pitched a perfect ninth to record his fifth save.

Vanguard is 14-8, 9-1 in conference.

HIU is 9-4, 7-3.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UCI def. Cal State Northridge

NORTHRIDGE — Aaron Koubi had 20 kills, while Thomas Hodges and Tamir Hershko added 15 apiece to lead the visiting Anteaters to the 22-25, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 15-12 victory in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Friday.

Koubi hit .455, Hodges hit .542 and Hershko hit .407 for UCI (12-6, 9-5 in conference).

Michael Saeta had 54 assists and five kills for the winners.

CSUN is 12-7, 5-7.

Orange Coast def. Grossmont

EL CAJON — Matt Ujkic had 10 kills on 15 swings with no errors to lead the visiting Pirates in the nonconference match Friday.

It was the seventh straight win for OCC (8-1), which posted a 27-25, 28-26, 25-18 triumph for its sixth straight sweep.

Justin Kam had 12 kills and nine digs, while Colby Elder added 28 assists and two aces for the winners.

Grossmont is 1-8.

SOFTBALL

Doubleheader

Host Vanguard University split two Golden State Athletic Conference games, topping Arizona Christian, 6-2, then falling, 10-4, on Friday.

Vanessa Dwyer threw a complete game to improve to 7-1 in the opener.

Payton Ross was two for four with one run batted in, Samantha Shaffer had three RBIs and Summer Penner was two for three and scored twice for the Lions in the opener.

In Game 2, Ross was two for three with one RBI, Mia Palomino was one for two with two RBIs and Emily Hall was two for three with one RBI.

Vanguard is 14-4, 5-1 in conference.

ACU is 6-10, 2-4.

Saddleback 10, Orange Coast 2

MISSION VIEJO — Lennea Donahugh tripled and drove in two runs to highlight the visiting Pirates’ three-hit attack in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.

OCC is 3-9, 1-4 in conference.

Saddleback is 8-5, 4-1.
