Edison advances to title game

Edison High’s football team had plenty of motivation when trailing in the fourth quarter at Moreno Valley Rancho Verde Friday night.

The Chargers wanted to reach the CIF Southern Section Division 3 championship game. They wanted to win for their coach, Dave White, who is in his 31st and final season.

Edison definitely wanted it.

Quarterback Griffin O’Connor scored on a seven-yard run with 54 seconds left to lead the Chargers to a 32-28 semifinal victory.

Edison (12-1) will play at La Mirada (11-2) for the CIF Southern Section Division 3 title on Friday night. La Mirada advanced to the championship game with a 36-20 win over Los Alamitos at Veterans Stadium.

The Chargers trailed twice in the final quarter and both times O’Connor led scoring drives to give Edison the lead and the win.
