High School Roundup: CdM takes down Los Gatos

LOS GATOS — Junior running back JT Murphy had two of the Sea Kings’ four rushing touchdowns in Friday’s nonleague game at Los Gatos High.

Quarterback Chase Garbers had a two-yard keeper for a score, while Jaydin Moses capped the scoring in the fourth quarter with an eight-yard touchdown run.

Max Casper made a 32-yard field goal, as well as all four conversion kicks, for CdM (1-1), ranked No. 7 in CIF Southern Section Division 4. The Sea Kings never trailed and led 17-7 at halftime.

Los Gatos fell to 1-1.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Costa Mesa 13, Crean Lutheran 5

IRVINE — Gianna Valdez swept at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs in Thursday’s nonleague road match.

Costa Mesa’s other singles players, Alexis Votran and Daisy Arroyo, both won twice. The doubles teams of Hannah Mellies and Nancy Le, Sarah Catania and Crystal Henriquez, as well as Megan Flaherty and Amber Lee, also won twice.

Costa Mesa (2-1) also beat Century, 10-8, on Wednesday. Arroyo won twice in singles, including a 7-5 victory against Century’s No. 1 player to help clinch the match. Valdez also swept in singles again for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs play at Marina on Tuesday.
