High School Roundup: CdM girls’ tennis moves to 12-0

DANA POINT — Roxy MacKenzie swept in singles for the Sea Kings in Wednesday’s nonleague match at Dana Hills High.

Camellia Edalat and Brooke Kenerson swept in doubles for CdM (12-0), and Shaya Northrup and Izzy Dajee won twice in doubles.

CdM is the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Divsion 1, and Dana Hills is ranked No. 8.

CdM returns to Pacific Coast League play with a road match Thursday at Irvine.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Newport Harbor 23, Edison 1

Cole Brosnan and Charlie Covina each scored four goals for the Sailors in their Sunset League opener Wednesday at Newport Harbor High.

Oscar Goodell put in three goals for Newport Harbor (8-4, 1-0 in league), while Jason Grew, Makoto Kenney, Nick Bergsma and Ben Toffel each scored twice. Brosnan and John Rankin led the defensive effort with four steals, while goalie Max Sandberg had five saves and five steals.

Newport Harbor, ranked No. 7 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, plays in the S&R Cup this weekend. The Sailors open against Davis at 1:15 p.m. Friday at Irvine’s Woollett Aquatics Center.
