High School Roundup: Blair among Mesa winners

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Tri-meet

Costa Mesa freshman Aidan Blair won the 100-yard butterfly and 500 freestyle Tuesday, as the Mustangs competed against Tustin and Fullerton.

Blair touched in 54.01 seconds to win the butterfly, and 5:01.87 to win the 500 free.

Misael Andino won the 200 individual medley in 2:10.18 and finished second in the 100 butterfly (56.83). Jacob Petersen won the 100 freetstyle in 51.46, while Augie Cunningham won the 200 free in 1:54.51 and was second in the 500 free (5:20.04).

The Mustangs, who swim at home against Paramount on Thursday, also won both the 200 medely and 400 freestyle relays.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Tri-meet

Kendra Ferguson won the 100-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke for Costa Mesa in Tuesday’s tri-meet against Tustin and Fullerton.

Ferguson touched in 1:04.02 in the 100 free, and 1:12.81 in the backstroke.

Sofia Rice was second in the 100 free (1:05.00), and Lauren Kiefer was second in the 200 free (2:18.06).

The 200 medley relay of Ferguson, Kaylie Tickenoff, Cialee Enslow and Kiefer won in 2:12.81.

Costa Mesa swims at home against Paramount on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Sunny Hills 4, Estancia 2

Brian Rodriguez, Joe Stukkie and Jake Covey had one hit each for the Eagles in the nonleague game on Tuesday.

Rodriguez had a stolen base, Stukkie a double, run scored and RBI and Covey an RBI for Estancia (2-1), which plays at Century to open the Newport Elks Tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m.

BOYS’ GOLF

San Clemente 187, Corona del Mar 187

SAN CLEMENTE — Guy Clauss shot the low for the Sea Kings, one-over-par 36, in their season opener Tuesday at Talega Golf Club.

Ryan Shih (39), T.J. Jenkins (40), Lawrence Shih 43 and Will LeBeau (43) also scored for CdM, which was without standout Clay Seeber. CdM Coach Mike Starkweather said Seeber is nursing a bad back.

CdM next plays Edison at Newport Beach Country Club Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
