Men’s Water Polo: UCI quintet earns all-conference honors

Five UC Irvine players have been recognized as the Golden Coast Conference announced its inaugural men’s water polo postseason honors voted on by the league’s head coaches.

UCI junior goalie Matej Matijevic, who recorded 345 saves this season, was named to the All-GCC first team.

Sophomore Jack Trush (Corona del Mar High), who shared the team-high in scoring with 51 goals, was selected to the second team, while junior Ryan Warde (Edison High), who scored 51 goals, received honorable mention recognition.

Bryant Joudrie and Ian Fleenor were named to the GCC All-Freshmen team. Joudrie scored 33 goals this season and Fleenor 28.

UCI (10-14) finished fifth in the GCC Tournament in Stockton after a 14-13 overtime win over San Jose State in the fifth-place game on Saturday.
