Laguna gets even more flavorful as 2 eateries open

Laguna Beach basked in the flavors of Hawaiian and French cuisine this week with restaurants Royal Hawaiian Restaurant & Bar and Moulin’s grand openings.

Royal Hawaiian Restaurant & Bar, first established in Laguna Beach in 1947, was known for its island decor, tropical drinks like the Lapu Lapu, and the menu’s Hawaiian ribs.

The 331 North Coast Highway property shuttered four years ago after 65 years in business and had remained vacant ever since. It reopened Monday.

Orange County-based entrepreneur Mo Honarkarpurchased the property and reestablished the restaurant with an open-air dining area, pineapple decor and Hawaiian dishes from its original menu.

Moulin has another O.C. spot

French bistro and epicerie cafe Moulin opened its second location in downtown Laguna Beach at 248 Forest Ave., at the old address of Scandia Bakery.

The restaurant will feature a front patio, coffee bar, ice cream and an exhibition kitchen.

Owner Laurent Vrignaud opened his flagship restaurant in Newport Beach in September 2014.
