A suspected burglar was allegedly caught in the act breaking into a Glendale business last Monday when he triggered the building’s alarm system.

According to Sgt. Dan Suttles with the Glendale Police Department, the man had climbed onto the roof of a building in the 500 block of Burchett Street sometime before 2:40 a.m. and entered the business through a hatch, setting off an alarm.

The man was still in the building when police officers arrived at the scene and tried to make contact with him.

“They were a little surprised somebody was still there. Typically, burglars don’t stay around long,” Suttles said.

Rather than respond to the officers, the man fled from the building through a back door, triggering another alarm.

He was eventually taken into custody by police and identified as 33-year-old Juan Garcia from Los Angeles. Suttles said officers found him in possession of items taken from the business.

He declined to say what the items were or what kind of business was burglarized, saying it remains an active investigation.

Garcia was also allegedly found in possession of narcotics that appeared to be methamphetamine.

He was booked on suspicion of burglary and possessing a controlled substance.
