Celebrities ante up for charity
Actor Jack Black and other celebrities helped people with kidney disease “Beat the Odds” at the “No Limit Texas Hold ’em Celebrity Charity Poker Tournament” last Saturday at the Glendale YWCA.
The Glendale-based Renal Support Network raised $20,000 at the tournament, according to Lori Hartwell, the organization’s founder and president.
Among the other celebrities at the event were Kyle Gass, of comedy rock duo Tenacious D, as well as actors Quinton Aaron, star of the movie “The Blind Side,” and Sid Veda, who appeared in the TV series “Bloomers.”
A performance by the band Quattro, a nominee for Best New Artist at the 14th annual Latin GRAMMY Awards later this month, kicked off the event.
The money raised will help pay for the 15th annual Renal Teen Prom, with the theme “An Evening Among the Stars,” for teenagers who have kidney disease. It will be held in January at the Glendale Hilton.
