Upscale fitness center Equinox plans to open a 30,000-square-foot location in a downtown Glendale office building sometime in early 2015.
Slated to be situated on two floors of 207 Goode Ave., near the westbound Ventura (134) Freeway onramp, the new spot will bring Equinox’s presence to just under 20 locations in Southern California.
“Our overall strategy in urban markets, whether it’s New York or L.A., is to build clubs near where people work,” said John Klein, the fitness chain’s senior vice president of real estate.
Like other Equinox sites, the one in Glendale will feature studios for a variety of classes including yoga, cycling, Pilates and personal training, Klein said.
More than 100 pieces of cardiovascular equipment will be on-site as well, he said.
A spa, retail store and café to be included in the new fitness center will be open to the public, Klein added.
Klein said Equinox targets upscale customers, which is why Glendale was selected for an opening.
“There are a lot of fitness offerings and gyms. We don’t consider ourselves to be a gym; we’re a lifestyle offering,” he said.
“We’re excited to bring our Equinox brand to Glendale … We’ve done our homework,” he added.
