Trotting out the Year of the Horse in Glendale
Hundreds of families gathered at the Americana at Brand in Glendale Saturday afternoon for its sixth annual Lunar New Year festival, featuring dozens of dragon dancers, stilt walkers, drummers and performers.
Among those ringing in the Year of the Horse was Rosemead resident Jeanny Huynh, who said she appreciated the effort to expose the holiday to different cultures.

It’s the first year the event featured arts and crafts booths, where attendees could pick up dragon whiskers, a traditional Chinese candy, or get their faces painted.
Huynh took home a painting of the Chinese symbol for “prosperity.”
San Gabriel resident Carrie Ho, who emigrated from Taiwan four years ago, attended to expose her two young children to their heritage.
“It’s hard to see dragon dancing here,” she said. “I love it, it’s like Christmas.”
For an authentic Lunar New Year celebration, Burbank resident Karla Zeron said she’d normally have to drive to Chinatown.
“Now that we know it’s going to be here, we’ll be coming every year,” she said of the festival in Glendale. “It’s beautiful.”
