It is with great sadness and love in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, uncle, grandfather, coach, and friend.

Gordon died peacefully in his sleep and went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2010. He was born on April 24, 1931, in San Pedro, California. After graduating from Stanford University in 1953, Gordon became a pilot in the United States Navy serving from 1953-1958. Following that, he received his Master’s Degree in Physical Education from San Jose State. He coached football at the high school and junior college levels for more than 50 years, but coaching at Crescenta Valley High School always held a special place in his heart.

In addition to coaching, Gordon was actively involved in church, enjoyed golfing, home improvement projects, and spending time with his family, friends, and his dog, Fred. Watching his grandsons’ sports activities always brought him great joy.

He is survived by his three children, Scott Warnock (Barbara) of Oxnard, Wade Warnock of Pasadena, and Julia Vander Ploeg (Eric) of Rancho Palos Verdes. Gordon was blessed with four grandchildren: Kenneth, Drew, Grant, and Chase.

Gordon will always be remembered as a loving, encouraging, inspirational man and will surely be missed.

A private graveside service will be held, followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, at La Canada Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to either the La Canada Presbyterian Church Faith Missions Fund or to the Gordy Warnock Memorial Fund at Crescenta Valley High School, 2900 Community Ave., La Crescenta, 91214 (www.cvhsfalcons.com).
