Tujunga Social Security office closes

TUJUNGA - Glendale, La Crescenta, La Canada Flintridge and Sunland and

Tujunga residents who use the Verdugo Hills Social Security Office in

Tujunga will have to look elsewhere after today.

The office will close for good at 4 p.m. today and patrons are being

asked to use the Social Security Administration offices in Glendale and

Burbank in the future. A small staff will be at the office today and

residents may want to go elsewhere, officials said.

A spokeswoman for the Verdugo Hills office, 6401 Foothill Blvd., said

the move is a consolidation that will provide a better level of service.

Most of the seven employees will be transferred to the Glendale or

Burbank offices and be able to handle the extra load of customers caused

by the closure, the spokeswoman said. The Verdugo Hills office in Tujunga

serves 50 to 100 people a day.

Social Security offices process applications for retirement and

disability benefits and Supplemental Security Income.

The Glendale office is at 910 S. Central Ave., Suite 320. The Burbank

office is at 2025 N. Glenoaks Blvd. The hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday

through Friday in both offices.

Residents of Sunland and Shadow Hills are encouraged to use the

Burbank office and those who live in La Crescenta, Tujunga and La Canada

Flintridge can use the Glendale office.
