Zany Brainy, Noodle Kidoodle merge

DOWNTOWN -- Things are about to get a little zany for one toy

retailer.

Zany Brainy Inc. and Noodle Kidoodle Inc. announced their merger this

week. The move adds 59 toy stores to the 104 Zany Brainy has throughout

the nation.

“Because both companies champion similar values, this partnership is a

natural fit,” Keith C. Spurgeon, Zany Brainy chairman and CEO, released

in a statement. “We consider this a great opportunity for our customers,

employees and shareholders.”

Spurgeon said the merger has greatly improved Zany Brainy’s 1999

revenue base.

Commenting on Zany Brainy’s expected revenue losses for the first

quarter of 2001, which will probably exceed those seen in the first

quarter of 1999, Spurgeon said the sale of hot products, such as Beanie

Babies, will affect year-to-year comparisons.

All of the stores will take the Zany Brainy name.
