International opera star

sings at The Alex Theatre

GLENDALE -- Swedish baritone Hakan Hagegard, who has performed

throughout the world, will appear at 8 p.m. Friday at The Alex Theatre in

Glendale.

Hagegard’s career spans three decades. He has performed at Carnegie

Hall, Vienna Staatsoper, the Opera Bastille in Paris, the Concertgebouw

in Amsterdam and others.

He appeared as Papageno in Ingmar Bergman’s film version of “Mozart’s

The Magic Flute.” Recently, he was heard in the role of Jaroslav Prus in

the Metropolitan Opera’s new production of Janacek’s “The Makropulos

Case.”

Ticket prices range from $20 to $45 and can be purchased by calling

shows artistic shots at gallery

MONTROSE -- David J. Lans, a former News-Press photographer, has taken

the hobby of snapping pictures of his daughter and turned it into an art

form.

A commercial photographer for almost 15 years, Lans has invested much

of the last three years shooting photographs of his 3-year-old daughter,

Natalie.

His photographs, from elaborate productions to simple black-and-white

candids, will be on display at Whites Art Gallery in Montrose in an

exhibition titled “The All Natalie Show,” opening Thursday.

An artist’s reception has been set from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the

gallery, 2414 Honolulu Ave., Montrose.

Alumni chorale rehearsing

for community performances

GLENDALE -- The Crescenta Valley High School Alumni Chorale, under the

direction of Shirley Nute, has begun rehearsals. The group meets at 7:45

p.m. every Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church of Glendale’s

Music Center, 134 N. Kenwood St., Glendale.

The chorale performs at various locations throughout Glendale. To

schedule a performance or for information, call 845-2683.

The alumni chorale is made up of graduates from CV High who sang in

the school’s men’s glee club, women’s glee club or a capella choirs. All

former CV students who sang in the choirs are welcome to join.
