Salvation Army youths
meet the Easter Bunny
The Oakmont League presented its annual Easter egg hunt for children
in the Salvation Army Day Care Center April 12 at the Japanese Tea House
in Brand Park.
About 30 children from the center had their picture taken with the
Easter Bunny, then enjoyed bubble blowing, a story time and lunch.
Youngsters also received an Easter basket filled with treats.
Barbara McCullough was chairwoman, assisted by Esther Bowen, Alice Di
Iorio, Roberta Raffaelli, Jeri Benton, Donna Sauer, Julie Budimer, Jo
Anne Klosterman, Gail Gilhooley and Mary Lou Morrison. The guild
president is Janet Dumser.
Garden party benefits
shelter for women
Members of the Elizabeth House Guild will sponsor a Garden Tea and
Boutique from 1 to 4 p.m. May 5 and 6 at a private estate in Pasadena.
Elizabeth House is a residential home that provides shelter for
abandoned women in crisis pregnancy and their children.
Guild members helping plan the event are Bonnie Thomas, Cathy Bishop,
Christy Vasquez-Eberhardt and Tami Wolter, all of Glendale, and Susan
Banks, Ruth Jones, Carole Lewis, Nikki Bednar, Anne Hennessey and Pat
Larsen, all of La Canada Flintridge.

Designers displayed
at house of design
Interior and exterior designers from Glendale and the foothills are
showing their expertise at Pasadena’s Showcase House of Design now
through May 20. The estate features a 22-room Italianate-style mansion
built in 1930.
Designers enhancing the landscape surrounding the estate are Robert
Edwards, John Gummoe and Annie St. Clair, all of Tujunga, and Terry
Morrill of Glendale. Designer John R. Roberts of La Canada Flintridge has
created a kitchen garden complete with a terrace for growing container
vegetables and herbs.
Proceeds benefit music programs of the Pasadena Showcase House for the
Arts, formerly the Pasadena Junior Philharmonic Committee. The group
raises funds for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Music Mobile, an
instrumental music competition and a youth concert.
Complimentary parking is provided at the Rose Bowl, with a shuttle
running from 9 a.m. until the house closes.
Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and 9:30
a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Ticket prices range
from $17 to $25 and can be ordered through Ticketmaster at (213)

Residents support
‘Gift of Love’ gala
Local residents attended “A Gift of Love” benefit honoring Marilyn
Zumberger, sponsored by USC/Norris Cancer Center Auxiliary. More than
$70,000 was raised, which will go to financial assistance for cancer
center patients.
Noreen Zapanta is president and Kathi Horgan served as event
chairwoman.
Attending from Glendale and the foothills areas were members Elizabeth
and William Baer, Yvonne and Dr. Robert Biller, Bernice Christenson, Elna
and Dr. Gerry Coetzer, JoAnn and Dr. Jack Conley, Dr. Janet and James
Eddy, Veronica and Dr. Peter Nichols, Susan and Dr. Michael Patzakis and
Lenore Stevens.
CalTech/JPL retirees
install new officers
The CalTech/Jet Propulsion Laboratory Retirees Assn. (ARC) had its
annual installation at the Pasadena Women’s Club.
Officers are Warren Moore of La Canada Flintridge, president; Helen
Benedict, vice president; Bob Steinbacher of La Canada Flintridge,
treasurer; and Pat McLeod of La Crescenta, secretary.
Awards were presented to those who have contributed to the group’s
endeavors. They are Phil Neuhauser of Sunland, outgoing president;
Barbara Cline, hospitality; Joy Hodges, ARC Light Editor, and Pat McLeod,
secretary.
A special award was given to supporter Capt. David Higashi, manager of
Trader Joe’s in La Canada Flintridge.
Hillsides volunteers
receive Angel Awards
Hillsides, a Pasadena-based nonprofit organization that creates safe
places for children and for treating families in crisis, honored friends
during its annual Angel Awards ceremony April 11.
Jess Marlow, host of KCET’s “Life and Times,” and Phyllis Marlow,
community volunteer, received Hillsides’ Community Angel Award.
Also honored was Las Candelas, which has members in Glendale and the
foothills areas.
Academy’s Mother’s Guild
hits home run with gala
The Mother’s Guild of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy stepped up to
the plate and hit a home run at the “A League of Our Own” gala
fund-raiser at the Student Activities Center.
Co-chairwoman Kathy Child said about $120,000 was raised for the
school’s building fund.
Attending the event were Glendale residents Phil and Eveline Siracuse,
Jane and David Novitski and Barbara Nemer.
