GLENDALE -- There’s something that keeps the members of Glendale Aglow
coming back to its monthly meetings, and Joy Gallagher thinks she knows
what it is.
“It’s just a very warm, loving place,” said Gallagher, the group’s
recording secretary. “It’s a place of security, I think, and sometimes
women don’t always have that. I think they find that here.”
Maybe that’s why Glendale Aglow has been around so long. On Saturday,
the group will celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Glendale Aglow is a mostly female Christian group that emphasizes
ministry. The 15 to 20 regular members of the group hold annual walks to
benefit a local pregnancy aid center, give teddy bears to the Police
Department to distribute during the holidays, provide help to the
resident of a girls’ home in Pasadena, and help out wherever else they
can.
“We’re there to minister to whoever needs ministry,” Gallagher said.
Saturday’s event, which is open to the public, will feature speaker
Joyce Toberty, co-owner of IBS Management Inc., who will speak on the
subject of ministry and faith.
“They always come with a fresh word,” Gallagher said of the group’s
speakers. “We don’t tell them what to say.”
