KAREN LEIGH BELKIN
Karen Leigh Belkin, 56, died May 1, 2002, in Encinitas.
Ms. Belkin was born Sept. 9, 1945, in Glendale. She lived in Burbank
until 1978, when she moved to San Diego County.
Ms. Belkin loved gardening, genealogy and crafts.
Survivors include her husband, Alan Belkin; daughter and son-in-law,
Stacy and Jason Ness of New York; two grandchildren; mother, Doris Bungay
of Burbank; brother, Rodney Bungay of Paradise; and many friends.
Funeral services are noon Sunday at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600
Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego.
The family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Susan G.
Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 8070 La Jolla Shores Drive, PMB 509, La
Jolla, CA 92037.
CLARA CECILIA CHAPMAN
Clara Cecilia Chapman died April 30, 2002, at a Glendale hospital. She
was 85.
Ms. Chapman was born in St. Louis, Mo. She lived in Tujunga for more
than 49 years. She was a homemaker.
Ms. Chapman is survived by daughters, Pat De La Torre of Cle Elum,
Wash., Mary K. Reed of Edmonds, Wash., Margaret M. Chapman of Tujunga,
Eileen C. Chapman of Palmdale, Bridget E. Johnson of North Hollywood, and
Nola M. Pirruccello of Reno, Nev.; sons, George C. Chapman of Garden
Grove, Robert E. Chapman of Tujunga, Michael J. Chapman of Tarrytown,
N.Y., John P. Chapman of Milwaukie, Ore., and Terence J. Chapman of
Tacoma, Wash.; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Sr.
Marguerite Marie of Clyde, Mo.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Crippen Mortuary Chapel, 2900
Honolulu Ave., La Crescenta. Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Monday
at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 10321 Tujunga Canyon Blvd., Tujunga,
followed by interment at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crippen Mortuary.
SPURGEON R. (SPUD) KUNKEL
Spurgeon R. (Spud) Kunkel, died at his Loma Linda home on April 28,
2002. He was 89.
Dr. Kunkel was born in North Platte, Neb., on Jan. 6, 1913.
He was a dentist for more than 40 years in Burbank, and lived in
Glendale where he raised his family. Upon his retirement, he moved to the
Loma Linda area.
Dr. Kunkel was active with the Burbank YMCA Board of Directors and the
Burbank Rotary Club, was president of the Century Club of Loma Linda, and
the Glendale City Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinders.
Dr. Kunkel is survived by his daughters, Marlys Meeks of Burbank,
Cheryl Selin of Loma Linda, and Susan Kunkel of Hastings Ranch; seven
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren;
brother, Ferris Kunkel of Havasu, Ariz; and sister, Alice Axton of Red
Bluff.
Memorial services are at 3 p.m., May 18, at the Campus Hill Church of
Seventh-day Adventist, 11057 Hill Drive, Loma Linda.
