GLENDALE -- Four men are set to be arraigned today in connection with
a gang-related shootout on Sunday, police said.
Andrew Legaspi, 22, of Los Angeles and Adam Mendoza, 21, of Sun Valley are being held on $500,000 bail on suspicion of trying to kill several
people standing on a sidewalk at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Glendale Police
Sgt. Kirk Palmer said.
Witnesses told police that someone in a green Ford Explorer with
tinted windows fired several shots out of the truck in the 400 block of
Thompson Street. No injuries were reported.
“There were some words exchanged and some challenges were issued,”
Palmer said. “The investigation, and witness statements, indicate that
the victims had also fired at the suspect vehicle.”
The car drove off, and Burbank Police provided information that led
Glendale Police officers to a home in Los Angeles, where they set up a
surveillance.
Legaspi and Mendoza were arrested as they returned to the house in the
suspect vehicle. Bullet holes were found both in the SUV and in cars on
Thompson Street.
Two of the victims were later arrested on suspicion of trying to
commit assault with a deadly weapon.
Edwin Gamez, 20, of Glendale, and Paul Gonzalez, 21, of Los Angeles,
are being held on $30,000 bail.
All four men are set to be arraigned today.
Despite a recent increase in gang-related shootings in Glendale,
police believe the incidents are not connected.
