VERA MAE ‘HOLLIS’ CHATARD
Vera Mae “Hollis” Chatard, a longtime Glendale resident, died
Sept. 9, 2002, at her home.
She was born Sept. 30, 1914, in Shawnee, Okla. Her family moved to
Los Angeles when she was 3. She graduated from Hollywood High School,
attended college and became an orthodontal assistant.
In 1942, she married Frederick Joseph Chatard. They had four
children.
She was active in many community organizations such as the
Patron’s Club of Glendale Community College, the Women’s Civic League
of Glendale, the Glendale Community Concert Assn., Glendale YWCA and
YMCA, National Veteran’s Services and the National Federation of
Republican Women Glendale Workshop.
She is survived by her children, David of Mission Viejo, Joyce of
Florida, and Jeanee Lutterman of Georgia; grandsons, Christopher
Michael, Timothy Darin and Brian Dylan; granddaughters, Autumn Holly,
Oceanna Dawn, Serian Eden, Valery Blaze, Courtney Clare and Ariella
Celeste; and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband and son, Douglas Anthony, died before her.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Oct. 5, in the Peace
Chapel at Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary.
A reception will follow at the Chatard family residence.

ELISE BONWIT LANDRY
Elise Bonwit Landry, 100, died Sept. 17, 2002, in a Glendale
hospital.
She was born in New York.
She began her dancing career at 8 with her ballet studies. In
1917, she began dancing with the Metropolitan Opera Company, and in
1920, danced in Richard Rogers’ first Broadway show, “Poor Little
Ritz Girl.”
In 1938, she married musician Ed Landry, and became a buyer for
Webb’s Department Store in Glendale. After her husband concluded his
music career in 1955, they opened Landry Sporting Goods. She was a
volunteer at Verdugo Hills Hospital since 1972.
She is survived by her nephews, Christopher Bonwit of Georgia and
Jonathan Bonwit of Sunset City; and niece, Elise Bonwit Dickson of
Winter Haven, Fla.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crippen
Mortuary.
